MSVB Studios & Gallery Resident Artist Barbara Sharp: Sharp Art Designs

Considered one of today’s most innovative artists, Barbara Sharp’s use of color and inspiration from nature enable her to create beautiful, custom fabrics, rugs, textiles, and wall coverings, as well as custom designed and trompe l’œil wall and ceiling murals, faux finishes, painted furniture, commissioned paintings and portraits.

A descendant of 1871 porcelain artist Franz Detless Goebel, artistry is not in Barbara’s blood but also in her bloodline.  She attended Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska on a full art scholarship, dabbled in Interior Design classes at Indian River State College, and was a successful real estate agent before devoting herself fully to her art.
The beginning of Sharp Art Designs in 1989 started with a commission for Barbara to recreate designs for needlepoint canvasses.  Since then she has worked locally and nationally with interior designers such as Bierly Drake Associates, Frank Lincoln, L.K. DeFrances & Associates, Jill Shevlin of Intrinsic Designs, Rod Mickley, Susan Shuyler-Smith of Spectrum Design, and K.C. Barkley of Barkley International Design Group to name a few.  Barbara has exhibited in the Meghan Candler Gallery and Arts Mojo Gallery and her art has been featured in some of the nation’s most prestigious establishments gracing private homes, restuarants, hotels, public venues, office buildings, yachts, and corporate jets locally and throughout the country.
Generous in talent is just the beginning of Barbara’s artistic repertoire.  She has selflessly donated magnificent works of art in addition to her time helping children and adults create artistic masterpieces for auctions and fundraisers.  Most noted for her Mental Health Association TurtleTrax© turtles, Barbara has also presented artistic creations to the Hibiscus Children’s Center, McKee Botanical Garden, Cultural Council of Indian River County, the Humane Society of Indian River County, New Hope Christian Academy, Alzheimer & Parkinson’s Association of Indian River, Vero Beach Hibiscus Festival, the 2009 Save the Chimps fundraiser and numerous more.  Her CCIRC cover design entry (a top six semi-finalist) “Cultural Canvas” encompasses the beautiful cultural experiences the community offers and the delicate environment in which they are provided.
Over five thousand murals, thousands of yards of fabric, hundreds of rugs, and a plethora of portraits and paintings later, Sharp Art Design’s growth and success, the result of Barbara’s hard work, speaks for itself as she is now highly sought-after for all genre’ of artistic creations.
Attention to detail and the highest standards of excellence coupled with Barbara’s creativity and insight with every design is Sharp Art Design’s commitment towards Making Your World Beautiful.
