Things To Do

There is something in Downtown for every age...starting with the children...enjoy Pocahontas Park with its white picket fence, visit the Forge Rotary Fountain in Downtown Vero BeachMartial Arts Studio and Beach Bum Bagels across the street. Feel the rhythm of Downtown in the many dance studios that have programs for both children and adults. If it's Ice Cream you crave, visit Yami's, or Snowball's for shaved New Orleans ice. Every Friday afternoon from October to May, the Farmers Market features fresh produce, plants, arts & crafts and live music from Noon to 6 PM. Catch the Downtown Friday street festivals and Gallery Strolls which are free to the public and held throughout the year.

 

Historic Sites

Several sites located in Downtown Vero Beach are on the National Register of Historic Places and are Indian River County Historical Societydefinitely worth a visit. The Heritage Center and adjoining Citrus Museum showcase the role of the citrus industry in the growth of Indian River County. The original Indian River Courthouse has a lobby filled with photos and memorabilia of early Vero Beach, while the Pueblo Arcade has unique shops. The Vero Beach Train Station is a time capsule of yesteryear, and the Vero Beach Women's Club is chock full of Vero Beach pioneer lore. See economic redevelopment as the Diesel Power Plant is converted through private and public initiatives. Don't miss the Historic Theatre Plaza on 14th Avenue which is gathering community support to foster a fund-raising campaign that can re-open its doors.

 

Dining

Eating downtown offers a wide list of DELICIOUS choices. For breakfast and lunch, 14th Avenue is the place to be. Try the Barefoot Café by the Historic Theatre, Café Mojo or Kountry Kitchen (just south of Route 60 East). The Greenhouse Café serves breakfast, lunch or dinner...delicious any time! The popular Undertow on Old Dixie Highway or the Patio Restaurant are always a Home Run! For fine dining, the French Quarter is a must. Avanzare's homemade pasta is bliss. The Melody Inn serves Swiss/French cuisine and the 14th Avenue Steakhouse is delicious. Ethnic cuisines are simmering at Bangkok in Downtown, Saigon Bistro and Kata for Japanese/Thai foods. Villa Nova, Italian Kitchen and Scampi's Grill for Italian specialties or for Mexican dishes visit Ay! Jalisco.

Shopping

In the Pueblo Arcade, relax at the interesting Tea and Chi which carries teas and teapots from around the world. The Vero Furniture Mart has two showrooms with beautiful furnishings located across from the popular Scott's Sporting Goods and on 21st Street, grab an imported cigar at The Pipe Den or visit Boles Bikes to buy or rent cycles. Don Smith's Paint services all your painting and wallpaper projects. Eco Color is the place for unique floor and wall finishes. Decorative Arts and Loggia feature antiques and unique home goods. Tulaa, has one of a kind jewelry and artwork as does Downtown Beads along with vintage clothing. The newest shop, Haute Mess has great styles and the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop carries unexpected "finds" to discover and enjoy.



Art District

The Cultural Council of Indian River County is located in the Historic Theatre Plaza on 14th Avenue with lots of great leads for art and cultural events in the area...so if it's art you want...it's art you'll get! The Florida Highwaymen Gallery, Gallery 14, Tiger Lily Gallery, Artists Guild Gallery and Gallery RVS Antiques are all on 14th Avenue south of Route 60 East - known as the 3D-(Downtown Dine & Design) District. For photographic art, visit John Eisinger in the Pocahontas Building. Then bring your picture framing projects to the professional service of Tropic Art & Frame on 14th Avenue.

Government

Downtown Vero Beach is the hub of government activity for our charming and beautiful Hibiscus City. In the heart of downtown you'll find our City Hall and the Vero Beach Police Department. The Indian River County Courthouse is located one block north of 14th Avenue in the center of Downtown. The recently expanded South County Library is across from the Courthouse. Our library attracts residents and visitors of all ages with their extensive collection of books, activities, clubs and archives of historic Vero Beach. Also conveniently located within our lovely Downtown is the Post Office off of Route 60 East, just west of the railroad.

GoLine

GoLine is the Indian River County public transit system with bus service on 11 routes throughout the County and in Barefoot Bay. Six of these routes go directly to Pocahontas Park in the heart of Vero Beach
